Nash tells the story that he played this one for Dylan (probably in a hotel room somewhere) and when he was finished playing it there was silence...then Dylan said "play it again." Nash said that was the biggest compliment he's ever gotten on one of his songs.

I grew up with these guys ....... music-wise, I mean. Easy goin'; pointed, well-paced, comfortable like a pair of my favorite jeans. Think of a mid-day hike up Mt. Tam in Marin, lunch in Fairfax, maybe a sunset glimpse of Stinson Beach ....... The memories, the harmonies ....... I knew it well. If you're a "boomer" like my other friends in Marin -- you know! * Cav in OR *

One of the best slow songs that know. I'm 22 by the way and was raised on this stuff along with metal. For some reason however, this song hits it right in the easy spot. Keep on jamming out old people

I bought this album new and still have it. In the time of out-of-control government spying and malfeasance, "Southbound Train" is more relevant now than ever.

My claim to fame with this song was in 1973. I was in the Navy and stationed in Iceland doing anti-submarine warfare with VP-56. Several of us were getting early outs so that we could attend college, and the 6-7 of us were gathered together in Heathrow airport in London awaiting a flight back to the US. With the flights running late, several of my buddies got our acoustic guitars and played Southbound Train. Rec'd standing ovation from crowd. I'll never forget that. Thanks, Graham.

I remember this song while I was in basic training. My fellow recruit (S. Garfinkle) and I went to the rec center and she played this on the guitar and many other hits by CSY.

In 1972 I went into a record shop in Guildford Town Centre (Its not there anymore). I saw this album for sale and could not believe it (there was no internet in those days). I asked a member of staff if I could listen to it (It was vinyl, there were no tapes or CDs in those days). I put on a large set of headphones and sat and waited. A slight crackle and then this song began to play. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life when they began to sing. I have never forgotten that moment.
