For Gordon Voidwell's video "Ivy League Circus", our concept stems from our love of chess mixed with Gordon's love of Tropicalismo. Fusing these together, we created a linear story of a day in the "life". Using old JVC tube cameras, we ran two simultaneous sets, shooting a human chess game, dinner party, croquet game, hobo world, party train, etc. Then in post, we took props from the shoot and rescanned them to be used as graphic sequences. What came out was a hyper real pop world that melds Gordon's 80's aesthetic with his self-awareness of the 21st century. We had a blast and did we mention that he is a great dancer?!
