This is a great song, hugely respectful to those lost at sea. Bears comparison with and has great similarity to "The Mary Stanford of Rye" describing the Rye Lifeboat Disaster. Question is, which song came first, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" or "The Mary Stanford of Rye", as performed by Meet on the Ledge. The Rye event is much earlier, but the songs are of a much the same vintage, delivered similarly and to an almost identical tune. Food for thought.

The money that Gordon made from this song, he gave to the family of the crews and Capt. of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I'm proud to say me and Gordon are both Canadian and proud. Peace.

I swam out to the drop off of Superior one cold day in early June when her waters were barely into the forties. My Viking genes kept me alive and joyous for the experience.

I loved this song in high school mostly because it created a historical scenario that I wouldn't have known about if he hadn't sung it.

I grew up on Lake Erie. I love all the great the great lakes. They are beautiful and tragic. God bless all the souls lost in those waters...

The camera never focused on the bass player. Too bad, he was great!

We have stood at the waters edge at Whitefish Point looking out towards where she lies. Bless the souls who were lost. Thanks Gordon for this lovely haunting song.

Great true story in the lyrics but the song has no hook and for such a long song that would have been key point.

"Does anyone know where the love God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?" One of the most meaningful lyrics ever.

Gordon is 75 and has gotten so thin! I saw a video of him doing this song in 2009 and he looks skeletal! I hope it's just old age paring him down!
