Yeah, great song. Young artist doing the rounds of publishing houses and cafes 'buying kingdoms with my songs' - "rollin' smokes and drinking up her wine' hpw good is that? Shel also wrote all the songs on Old Dogs - including the funniest female protest song of all time: 'She'd rather be homeless' - nailed by Bobby Bare.

The other writer for On Susans floor is Vince Mathews along with Shel Silverstein

Yes, on the album this is credited to Shel Silverstein. Lightfoot chooses his covers carefully and makes them his own.

I like the last words of yours .. " We should just get over it, reflect upon ourselves and what we don't accept about ourselves then deflect it onto others." !

What a brilliant concept, a boy named Sue, what a interesting perspective on human nature, how we can become shaped by something as trivial as ones name. This song sheds light on why kids, even adults get bullied or shunned due to a name, over or underweight, birth marks or other unfortunate deformities, stuttering etc. Perfection doesn't exist, things are what they are. We should just get over it, reflect upon ourselves and what we don't accept about ourselves then deflect it onto others.

@terrafirma91 shel silverstein wrote the lirics - Vince Matthews probably the melody - sometimes those "lightfoot" songs will sneak up on you . . . talent runs in packs it seems.

This song was by Shel Silverstein, of Playboy artistry fame...and other works, such as "Boy named Sue."

I'm not certain, but I believe this song was written by another songwriter, or perhaps co-written. I could be wrong. Lightfoot's lyrics are so "real", and he seems to write songs effortlessly. And his words hit the heart on every song, unlike so many other songwriters.
