What a brilliant concept, a boy named Sue, what a interesting perspective on human nature, how we can become shaped by something as trivial as ones name. This song sheds light on why kids, even adults get bullied or shunned due to a name, over or underweight, birth marks or other unfortunate deformities, stuttering etc. Perfection doesn't exist, things are what they are. I'm not certain, but I believe this song was written by another songwriter, or perhaps co-written. I could be wrong. Lightfoot's lyrics are so "real", and he seems to write songs effortlessly. And his words hit the heart on every song, unlike so many other songwriters.
