Gordon Lightfoot

Did She Mention My Name

1968 - Did She Mention My Name

This is a UA product!!!!!

Lyics:

It's so nice to meet an old friend and pass the time of day

And talk about the home town a million miles away

Is the ice still in the river, are the old folks still the same

And by the way, did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing

And when the morning came, do you remember if she dropped a name or two

Is the home team still on fire, do they still win all the games

And by the way, did she mention my name

Is the landlord still a loser, do his signs hang in the hall

Are the young girls still as pretty in the city in the fall

Does the laughter on their faces still put the sun to shame

And by the way, did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing

And when the talk ran high, did the look in her eye seem far away

Is the old roof still leaking when the late snow turns to rain

And by the way, did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing

And looking at the rain, do you remember if she dropped a name or two

Won't you say hello from someone, they'll be no need to explain

And by the way, did she mention my name

My dad wasn't thrilled with my obsession with Gordon Lightfoot, but he really did like this song.

Not just my favorite GL song, but one of my all-time favorites. Period. Just takes me back to a very special time and place. Only great music can do that.

When the flame has burned down to embers the feelings still remain, the wistfulness of always caring about someone even when your time together has passed.

I went back to England in my late teens, after growing up in Canada and being incredibly homesick. Gordon Lightfoot songs kept me connected to the country I love.

People, you don't get the Order of Canada, by picking your nose! This gentleman laid a path for the Canadian youth to follow and to forge their way forward, turning Canada into the States'men that occupy the World of the 21st Century!Thank you Mr. Lghtfoot!

When I lived in Vermont I'd listen to Lightfoot as I flew down the road; I'll always dig Lightfoot. He does a better job of Me and Bobby McGee than Janis anyday; he seems like a bipedal musical note in 2/4 time. And he could really get that full acoustic sound. He's a treasure, fer sure!
