I see symbolism in this 1939 song, one of Miller's last great hits of his life almost a mournful goodbye to the world they once knew because WWII was weeks away and the world would change and by the end Miller himself would be dead as a result

Something from an era that will never come again. Class, pure class, not to mention an artistry that produced sounds from metal and reeds that will never again be duplicated. There was something about Glenn Miller's music that is nearly indescribable; one can only listen in wonder.

My favorite song by Glenn. Here he was a man in uniform fighting for our country going to put a benefit on for our troops & they shoot his plane down. What a sad, sad, day & a bunch of jackasses! They didn't even bother to find out for sure what happened to our man in uniform!!!!

This was my parents 'song'--it played at their funerals, too. I loved watching them dance to it--a wonderful memory.
