How this odd record came to be:

Although I had tried to reach him in 1991, I didn't get in contact with GG until late 1992. Despite our extreme differences (which I told GG about and he had no problems with that) we agreed to do a split EP (see excerpts from GG's letters to PP7 in the end of this video).

GG would record an acoustic song after he finished the album with the Murder Junkies. I waited for the tape and photos he wanted to use, but they never came. Instead I got the news of GG's death from an article in Melody Maker...

GG's death came as a shock although it shouldn't. It was also really sad to realize he never got to record the acoustic songs he had planned for. (He did record Layin up with Linda though. Was that song originally meant for the PP7 split?)

By the time of GG's death, Rowdy Beerdrinkin Night was still unreleased. I talked with GG's brother Merle (see his certificate in the end of this video), as well as GG's old friend Sharon (who got in contact with me after she found my letters among GG's stuff), about releasing that song instead. The project seemed to be able to finish despite GG's tragic death. But, more problems would come ahead.

First of all, the mentioned GG song got released on a bootleg EP and even worse, the record company that was supposed to release the split (C.B.R. Records, Sthlm, Sweden) went bankrupt. Things didn't look good.

I decided to continue until the end even though the problems of GG being dead, the "stand in"-song got bootlegged, the record company went bankrupt, certainly took their toll on my energy.

Merle sent me the cover photos and Swedish underground label Jazz Axel finally released 500 copies of it on CD (instead of vinyl that was the original idea) in mid 1994. A year of delays. Me and my girlfriend (now wife) cut all the covers by hand with a pair of scissors. The covers by the way, were miss-spelled by the printing company (who also did the whole layout) so they had to re-do them. As if I hadn't been through enough trouble already.

In a retrospective, the record could have been improved in many ways. But as I said, my energy was down at zero in the end so I didn't care much for layout and such, I just wanted to get it out and leave it all behind...
