Just for the record; Yiddish is based on Medieval High German which is why it is actually closer to Austrian, Swiss and Bavarian forms of German. But it also contains some Hebrew and Slavic elements as well. It's a very old language and the Jews are a very old nation. Yiddish, English and Dutch are all in the West Germanic linguistic family.Side note: Yiddish developed about 1000 years before standard German, but they have the same roots.
