I also notice a definite similarity in the melody to "Puppet On A String" which Elvis had a hit with more than a decade after this.

Yes of course. Well done you. Gracie was singing "Isle of Capri" from the 1930s and we had a battered old 78 among others someone found in Malaya which we played when on R&R. And yet certain later chords echo something else.
