Georgia White (March 9, 1903 -- c.1980) was an African American blues singer, most prolific in the 1930s and 1940s. Little is known of her early life. By the late 1920s she was singing in clubs in Chicago, and she made her first recording, "When You're Smiling, the Whole World Smiles With You," with Jimmie Noone's orchestra in 1930. She returned to the studio in 1935, and over the next six years recorded over 100 tracks for Decca Records, usually accompanied by the pianist Richard M. Jones and also, in the late 1930s, by guitarist Lonnie Johnson. Her output exceeds that of her rivals Lil Johnson and Merline Johnson, and even Memphis Minnie, during those years.

If you're the disapproving sort, the blues is not for you. Evidently the girl did remember everything and she enjoyed it too with no regrets. "He said 'give', so I gave - after all, what was I saving?" Nothing of any real value she decides.I'm sure some people here are trying to trace the man involved, to get him put on the paedophile register.

natabobata - I'm sorry I didn't see the request before. I'm in a jazz history class now, so I'll take the time to dig it up (I don't have an organized system, just boxes and boxes of sheets...). I'll try to put it on dropbox and ping you.

( Same person) Really? You should post the link because some lyrics seem to insinuate in an aloof way it was not a good experience maybe even a vague recollection orbiting around the possibility. Thats just how it sounds to me. Its still a good song but if that were the source it would have alot more depth.

that's right, why always compare, if you like it ,it's ok, not what other people may think.Everybody may have his own idea , his own taste and that's a good thing, lucky we can do that

Would you mind posting the chords (at least)...Please? A friend was asking for the chart only today, and I can't find them anywhere online. Thank you.

I have the sheet music, and read the lyrics before I heard it. It's a comic song. She drank so much that she can't remember anything from the night before.

Now this is real music, it even had a story.

I do not understand why people talk about music (or any other art form) as if it was a competitive discipline, like a sport. I can enjoy Billie Holliday, Georgia White, Bertha Lee Pate, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Elizabeth Cotten, and many, many more without having to compare them. How do you do that, anyway? Feeling, rhythm, inflection, etc are all subjective. I love them all, each one is unmatched and incomparable in her own way. Right now, all my attention is on beautiful Georgia!
