And in regard the comment below, gay meant both happy and homosexual in the 30's, that's not a new thing.  However, "blowing a gay" specifically meant smoking a joint as fellatio was still called "French style" and a few other terms at the time, and the term blow jobs didn't come along until a few decades later.

um, why do all of these 30's jazz videos have photos of white women as the still image?  This is really weird.  Like, all of them.  There were black women in the 30's, and some of them are even on these recordings.   :-p
