Great songs, great singer, and I love the excitement she puts in the song and the performance. Top notch.

Don't like this version. Etta sings it better!

Georgia Gibbs was/is a very special artist. Beeing originally more than a conservative singer she had a great influence from Rhythm & Blues e Rock 'n' Roll, recording various songs in these genders. I think Georgia Gibbs made R & B and R 'n' R more accetables to conservative white and black audiences.

I discovered Georgia Gibbs when we were demolishing an old house. In between the walls there were old rolls of newspapers (used to stuff the plaster i guess) And in one page there was Georgia on the paper from the 50s. I kept that paper.

That dress cost her a fortune and she put it to good use, including one great Mercury album cover.

Georgia was great. Do you have "The Hucklebuck" by her?

"Miss Nibs, Miss Georgia Gibbs" was something that George Gobel always said on his TV show when she appeared.

Yep, Jewish. And grew up in an orphanage though her mother was alive and well. She first sang as Fred Gibson. As you can see, she had a great figure and was an admitted fashion maven. Note that she starts singing live, but after the strenuous dance she goes into lip-synching. But the last line is live! She had more hit records than people remember.

'Nibs' is a slang term for someone of importance or in authority. The tag 'Her Nibs, Miss Georgia Gibbs' was given her early in her career by Gary Moore, the host of a USA radio show on which Georgia appeared.

In my opinion, Georgia was a better entertainer than her rival, Etta James, and she was also very pretty. But what are Nibs? Are they what I think they are?
