Shortly before the Great Depression an elite group of young white Americans comprised the carefree culture that reigned on university campuses across the country. In racoon coats with school flags held high, these collegiates embraced upbeat big band music and its whimsical lyrics (e.g. „She Is The Sweetheart Of Six Other Guys", „Collegiana", „Varsity Drag", „Campus Capers"). Those peppy & supposed-to-be-extremely nonsense'n'happy tunes were performed in dozens by campus bands throughout the country, as well as by the greats like George Olsen, Ted Weems, Hal Kemp, Charles Dornberger.

Years ago, I bought this old sheet music. As a banjo-guy/ vaude-performer I've been playing it for the pure fun of it. THANK YOU for this recording! That's the way it goes!

The Encyclopaedic Discography of Victor Recordings indicates three takes on Thursday 13th September 1928 in New York City. Take 2 was used for the 78 rpm Victor 21701 (presumably also the source of the HMV issue; the Victor ledger doesn't say). Take 1 was used for LP record issues: LPV 523 and LPV 549. Take 3 was Held (not destroyed) but, apparently, not used for any issue. The EDVR is a wonderful on-line resource; I recommend it. They are up to January 1930 (@ 17 Sept 2012).
