The Man I Love (1924) from the broadway show 'Lady Be Good'Composed by George Gershwin, Lyrics by his brother Ira GershwinStructure: Intro -----> Chorus (AABA song form) Tin Pan Alley influenced G.GMelody: the intro uses a sequence, the chorus use blue notes from Blue or Jazz whatever to create a resolving feeling, making the audience want to resolveHarmony: the chorus use chromatic harmony to create a melancholy and yearning felling. George wrote the music FIRST and then handover to Ira, so Ira can do some word painting stuff. For example: 1:31 "I do my best to make him STAY". The melody meanwhile 'stay' on the same note, convey a sense of this woman wanting her lover to stay. Ira Gershwin f--ked up on the line "So all else above" It makes no sense due to Ira forcefully write lyrics according to music. Other than that line, the rest work fine. ABC often experimented or flirted with quality television, however ratings or sponsors seldom supported it, and execs often killed it with crazy and erratic scheduling. We get what we deserve, Cougar Town, but I have to say since the 50s they occasionally tried. Young Indy was probably one of the best series produced by the big 3.9 years ago
