Genesis (minus Steve Hackett & Peter Gabriel) performing at the Lyceum Theatre in May of 1980. One of the last tours, if not the last, that featured complete performances of much of the great songs of the 70s before they reduced them to medleys.

A Trick of the Tail is a perfect album in my opinion. Not necessarily radio friendly, but every cut moved me in a positive way. I really liked the way Entangled stopped and Squonk began.

I guess the first Genesis album I heard was The Wind And The Wuthering. It's a great album, but I like Trick of the Tail better. And the album Seconds Out is hypnotic and strange. I love that one.

I believe it is Daryl Steurmer. Him and the drummer Chester Thompson tour with Genesis. Genesis plays all the instruments on their studio albums. Phil plays drums and Mike Rutherford does the lead and bass guitars when they make their studio. albums. That is why Phil Collins plays his drums as much as possible when they play live because he is the drummer on their albums and is 1/3 of Genesis. "And Then There Were Three"!

All cool, I'm the youngest of 7 kids, so our household had lots & lots of vinyl as you could imagine, both 45 & 33. My dad had to replace several sets of speakers in his is Fisher ''Hi Fi'' stereo set, along with several turntable stylus cartridges when we were growing up. :P Aside...Who is the guitarist in this video?

Good for you. If you don't have it already, get the album Seconds Out which is a live album from their 1975-1976 tour. First live tour after PG left. They really kicked ass and they did more PG Genesis songs than the songs from their 2 great albums A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. Seconds Out was a double album (vinyl) and Suppers Ready was the entire side of side three. Wow! Side 2 was all Before Phil Genesis. The entire album is a gem. Squonk was done first. Another wow!

I also purchased Seconds Out on vinyl. In fact, it turned me on to Genesis big time. I was already a die hard Pink Floyd girl, and I still am. What a talented band that Genesis is. Before and after PG. I am glad that Phil kept Genesis alive. I love many rock bands and have been to many concerts in the 70's. I was in my 20's at the time. I went through original Beetle mania when I was 15 years old.

Ha ha! I love that @ +4:05 mins. when Phil quickly turns to Tony and just as fast Tony turns away. This song is a classic in my book, I recall going to the Tower record store in the '70's with my older aged neighbor of 5 years when he bought the Seconds Out album in vinyl of course. Anyway, Squonk was my favorite song on the album. Along with Lynyrd Skynyrd's "One More From/For The Road'', Seconds Out was among the first record albums that introduced me to the rock genre. Cheers!

So sorry Jagoff -- even though I'm agnostic (meaning I don't know -- and those that think they know the mysteries of the universe and afterlife are pompous). My thoughts are with you. Rayce, is still there with you -- not only from music, but your constant thought. You may be told to let those thoughts go -- to try and relieve yourself -- but don't. Be at peace and Rayce know you accept that peace. >3

Err, so you know he was hired to replicate what Phil played on the albums, this song was written with a hard driving beat in mind so that's what he played. If you want to hear a Genesis song that does Chester's drumming justice, listen to "follow me, follow you" where Phil aped Chester's style.

Chester just poinds with no subtlety? Yeah, that's why he was in Weather Report. Really, drumming for arenas is probably different than drumming in the studio - concertgoers don't get to hear all the subtleties, they need to hear the beat. If you can find Banks' "A Curious Feeling" from 1979 listen and see what you think.

One of the best songs after Peter Gabriels departure. Very well done here by Chester,Phil,Darryl,Tony and Mike.Love Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. And Then There Were Three and Duke were ok.After that not so much, but they had to change because Prog was dead thanks to Punk, New Wave Industrial, and Pop.
