Like the mono 45 mix of "So You Say You Lost Your Baby", the original mix of this cut suffered from too much Gosdins and not enough Gene. When the cut was reworked in 1972 for the "Early LA Sessions" LP, you could actually make out what Gene was singing in the chorus for a change!

Not all revisionism is bad, at least not in this case. This album is unrepresented on CD.

From "Collector's Series: Early LA Sessions", Columbia LP KC 31123, 1972.

Ram4 .

These are not new vocals, this version was simply a new mix they made for the Early L.A. Sessions album using the original tapes. In fact I am 99% sure the only track on Early L.A. that had a new Gene lead vocal re-recorded was for Echoes.

This is really lovely, kinda softer, in a way. I loved your post of 'say you lost your baby' too... All the voices together sounded great to me - very Byrdsian ! Thanx for posting these. (Echoes was also a revelation) Think I like Both versions of all the songs. PLEASE post some more !!
