On this day in 1966 {December 4th} Gary Lewis & the Playboys performed a medley of "This Diamond Ring", "Green Grass", "She's Just My Style", and "Where Will the Words Come From" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...One week later on December 11th, 1966 "Where Will the Words Come From" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #87; and on January 22nd, 1967 it peaked at #21 {for 1 week} and spent 9 weeks on the Top 100...And exactly one year before the 'Sullivan' appearance, on December 4th, 1965, Gary & the boys were guests on 'American Bandstand' and they performed "Everybody Loves a Clown" {it peaked at #4 on the Top 100 chart}...

Same thing happened to me around the same time, except it was my wife playing the song. Turned out she was messing around and wanted to be with him. The song went right over my head at first. Divorced, then...hello Vietnam.

My fave from Gary Lewis & The Playboys. Just my luck, this is one of the few of their hits where no video of the group exists performing the song from the 60's. Maybe Gary was in the service at the time. I just don't know. :(

Love this song. One of my favorites from Gary & the boys. I saw them in concert a few years ago here in El Paso and they put on a GREAT show, even though they didn't play this great song I still enjoyed it. Thnx for posting.

On Christmas break during 1966, this song was playing on the radio. My first love asked me to turn up the volume which was an obvious clue that she found someone new at college. That memory will stay in my heart although I am now glad that she didn't stay in my life. Thank you for posting the song.
