I gotta go with the Ray Charles version as my fave. I also like Jerry Garcias version.

Somebody just sent me a positive email about my comments concerning this song on this last night in Jan 2015, (Jan 31, 2015) but my email client lost it, whoever it was I just want to say thank you and hear are the words to the song dedicated to you:Up in the mornin'Out on the jobWork like the devil for my payBut that lucky old sun got nothin' to doBut roll around heaven all day.Fuss with my woman, toil for my kidsSweat till I'm wrinkled and grayWhile that lucky old sun got nothin' to doBut roll around heaven all dayDear Lord above, can't you know I'm pining, tears all in my eyesSend down that cloud with a silver lining, lift me to paradiseShow me that river, take me acrossWash all my troubles awayLike that lucky old sun, give me nothing to doBut roll around heaven all daySend down that cloud with a silver lining, lift me to ParadiseShow me that river, take me acrossWash all my troubles awayLike that lucky old sun, has nothing to do But roll around heaven all dayONE MORE TIME, That lucky old sun has nothing to dobut do nothing, it is us or our planet that is doing all the workscreaming around the Sun at 10,000 mile per hour, while thatlucky old sun has got nothing to do but setting on it's but all day.

Frankie Laine Owns this song! No one else can do it as well. Only Louis Armstrong comes close.

No wonder why so many middle aged people talked about this singer by the name of Frankie Lane with admiration and laughter when I was a kid. I knew who Elvis and Ricky Nelson was, but who's this Frankie Lane guy I asked myself. What a great song. I should check out his other popular songs that he did.

That lucky old sun doesn't have to do anything, not even roll around heaven all day, it's us that rolls around it at 10,000 miles per hour but if it weren't for that lucky old sun we'd all freeze to death. It like us has it's own problems that we two-legged animals can't comprehend. But what a great song by Frankie Lane, I remember as a kid while watching baseball about 1960 the middle aged announcers kept talking about this singer by the name of Frankie Laine, I said to myself, who is this Frankie Laine guy that they keep talking about? now I know.

May I suggest that you try the version by "Les Compagnons de la Chanson"? - sadly not at present on YouTube.

To all you Nebraska Cornhuskers fans, Kansas City Chiefs fans, and Buffalo Bills fans out there: This was the #1 song in the USA when Jeff Kinney came into the world (November 1, 1949).
