Next to Frankie Laine, Vaughn Monroe and Johnnie Ray were my favorite. I liked Guy pluse the male singers like Don Cherry, Adam Wade, Alan Dale. As the Gals go, Kay Starr, Pattie Page, and Jo Stafford were my favorites. I finished high school and went in the army in 1956.

Yes, "Lucky Old Sun" was in 1949. It was Frankie's first #1 Hit and that was replaced later that year with "Mule Train" as his 2d then shortly in early 1950 "Wild Goose" would be his 3d. He would never have another Bilboard #1 but many others in the Top 10. I was 11 in 1949 and didn't learn to appricate songs like "Sun" till I was a Teenager. Now I have everything he ever recorded and a web site on Frankie's recordings

Wasn't 1949 the year of "That lucky old Sun?" I would'nt have become 15 until December of 1949. I didn't have a favorite singer till I discovered Frankie!

I beat you by 2 years as I've been a fan since 1949. What 11 year old boy wouldn't be moved when he heard "Mule Train" for the first time and follow that by that crazy old Wild Goose.

He's been my favorite singer since 1951. He sings with a lot of feeling.

It seems everyone has his favorite Frankie song. I have them all but I think "Humming Bird" tops my list followed by " The Greater Sin"

@MsJL72 Frankie didn't have the best voice of the pop singers. But he could do more with his voice than any singer I know. And yes he could move you in a way few would even try. Fron the very first note of a recording you knew it was one of Frankie's.
