He may have been musically intelligent but i just don't see wtf is the big deal about him.I've listened to him and he's fucking weird and the "music" is just terrible. Why on Earth would anyone give him the time of day? As for Vai? What garbage playing.A blur of notes with no direction or feeling,BORING!

Let me tell you---I am the biggest Hendrix freak in the world .PERIOD. Frank Zappa WAS SO BEYOND EVERYONE ! HE WAS A MUSICAL GENIUS.THE GUY WAS AMAZING AND HUMBLE.DID YOU KNOW THAT HE OWNED THE HENDRIX MASTER TAPES.YOU CAN'T REALLY COMPARE THE TWO.THERE STYLES WERE SO DIFFERENT,BUT FRANK COULD PLAY ANYTHING.VIA IS A MONSTER!!!!!!!! I LOVE THEM ALL.

When you speak with serious guitar players and teachers they will tell you that Zappa was certainly - at the very least - on the level of Hendrix. He was a composer first and a guitar god last in his own mind. I saw him in 78 and can say I have never seen anything like what he did with a guitar. It is very complex stuff integrating many different genres in his leads. Other guys are faster shredders - but none can play like him. Vai considered him to be his mentor and looked up to him immensely. Listen to his stuff on his recordings. Most of the leads are live dubs into the studio mixes.

There are no gods, just players. Hendrix didn't do what Frank did, Frank didn't do what Steve did - they're individuals.

Zappa just got a new fan today. Guy could frikin' play when he wasn't busy making fun of someone/something with his music.
