i should maybe put this in my own post. the brilliance of zappa is that 75% of his audience never really figured it out. kids today are sorting through his work, and they still don't really get it...so, what is this? what this *actually* is is frank going to a doors concert (or something like the doors, in los angeles in the mid 60s), saying "this is the dumbest goddamn thing i've ever seen", realizing he's gotta do something similar if he's going to gig and responding with a tongue-in-cheek parody of it.it may come off as sort of groundbreaking. and it certainly is, in a certain respect. it's bitingly satirical, in a way that foreshadows punk rock.but it's not meant to be taken seriously. like, if you want to listen to this and drop acid to it, go ahead. his estate'll take your money - in frank's name. but he's laughing in his grave....

Released in 1966. A response to the absurdity of the title of the hit song on the radio that same year, "I Am A Rock".

I always wondered what I was gonna be when I grew up, you know.....always wondered whether or not....whether or not I could make it, you know, in society because, well it's a drag when you're rejected...so I tore the cover off a book of matches I sent in.......and I got this letter back that said..............starting at 3:00 minute point the moans and agony of living in the land where the pharaoh died become evident......the song was more revolutionary in concept and execution for the time....I saw Zappa and the Mothers at Winterland and again at the San Carlos Circle Theatre.

THIS SONG HAS BEEN TRUNKATED. It is missing about half of the full song, Some of the best parts are not here, where he asks Suzy Cream Cheese "we're interested in your personal development" and she answers "Forget it !!" for the in end they sing "....it can't happen here"I got it in a tape that has recorded from a scratchy old 33 RPM disk, but I will try to upload it later.

As good as Freak Out is, We're only in it for the money was the game changer. An obvious homage to Sgt. Pepper, it contains some of the most biting social satire, especially of the San Francisco Summer of Love scene you will find anywhere this side of a Hunter Thompson novel.

Zappa was not a drugs man. Me neither. Only acid, magic mushrooms an' shit. Seriously though, I'm all grown up now. That was 30 years ago. Zappa's music is still seriously good by anyone's standards.
