This is the unreleased version of Fiona Apple's "Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song)" (produced by Jon Brion). This song was formerly known as "Used to Love Him".

Lyrics:

Those boon times went bust

My feet of clay, they've dried to dust

The red isn't the red we painted,

It's... just... rust

That signature thing that used to bring a following

I have trouble now, even remembering

So why did I kiss him so hard late last friday night

And keep on letting him change all my plans

I'm either so sick in the head

I need to be bled dry to quit

Or I just really used to love him

I sure hope that's it

I knew that to keep in touch would do me deep in dutch

'Cause it isn't the rush of remembering, it's just mush

And that signature thing is only growing harrowing

I should have no trouble now to keep from following

So why did I kiss him so hard late last friday night

And keep on letting him change all my plans

I'm either so sick in the head

I need to be bled dry to quit

Or I just really used to love him

I sure hope that's it

Those boon times went bust

My feet of clay, they've dried to dust

The red isn't the red we painted,

It's... just... rust

That signature thing that used to bring a following

I have trouble now, even remembering

So why did I kiss him so hard late last friday night

And keep on letting him change all my plans

I'm either so sick in the head

I need to be bled dry to quit

Or I just really used to love him

Or I just really used to love him

Or I just really used to love him

I sure hope that's it

This version of Tymps perfectly fits on When The Pawn... I like this version instead of the streamlined one... But the 2 has their own personality this one is more carnivalesque. I have to say that extraordinary machine is the streamline version of When The Pawn... After all is Fiona and everything she does is pure relatable hones and even more intriguin in every listen... Rather to hear fiona for the rest of my life instead today's music... As an artist she deserves more respect and recognition but all goes to today artist like Shitrihanna ect. I'm 21 and this is my thing.

Fiona = so awesomeWhy did I only discover all this awesome now, at 20, when all the worst times of my life are probably behind me already?"...past my feet of clay/though it isn't the red we painted, it's just rust/[...]I might be so sick in the head, I need to be bled dry to quitOr I just really used to love him/ I sur hope that's it."Man, I could smooch thi chick right now, if her smoochable areas were available to me right now.SO. DAMN. AWESOME.Fiona Apple - Tymps (unreleased version) / Used to Love HimIf you ever read this, just by chance : You're awesome, Fiona, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. My first impression from hearing your music was that you were a really strong and tough person who's not afraid to show her vulnerability. Even after hearing your RL anticts and your common perception, I still stand by it. How did this awesome music exist for so long without me noticing?Well, I'm glad I noticed it/heard this before I died.

I much prefer all the Brion versions, especially this disjointed one.

This isn't the most radically different of these versions - but as usual it's better, as much for the vocals as for the arrangement. (BTW: I heard the "official" Extr. M album first, in 2005, and was already blown away by the lyrics and vocals, a quantum leap from Pawn...But then I managed to download the Brion versions and - even with no Parting Gift - they effortlessly "slew" the official versions).

Much much better than the album version... The horns/bells? Sound so esoterically nice.

The released production for Ex Machine borders on the sublime. all this unreleased crap sounds amateurish and uninspired, that's why she shit canned it. - Fiona = smart and discerning and did justice to her genius by dumping the first producer who obviously "didn't quite get it" - but people want shit these days i understand.

reverse-hipster: likes the released version better because the unreleased version became too mainstream...wow, you guys, just enjoy the music, who cares

@sirormadame I must say I can't hear it. I think this song is supposed to be sung as if she didn't care, and maybe that's where the impression comes from.

I prefer the faster tempo of this version to the released version. The released version sounds like a re-mix to me, but I think that's just me.
