The layers of a "jazz violin solo" featuring dissonance and consonance, syncopation and legato, intensity and solitude, power and vulnerability, the dynamic range of the ups and the downs, improvising off the cuff, needing to reinvent oneself, and the desire to communicate to others about a feeling we have, is why I chose this particular video to tribute Whitney. It reminds me of her life in music behind the hits, the difficulties of music making masked from us behind the finished "power ballads" that were glorious to us.
