I like this song, the lyrics are significant, I don't think the oh mercy album blues format does it credit, so i tried to re cast it.

Yeah! Who is this Dylan guy anyway...I mean, has he really done credit to his own words and his own music created from his own life? Only 40 albums so far...compared to your genius, that is. You go girl! "Re cast" (as you say) all his songs and then move on to "re cast" other icons. Can't wait to hear your Girl From The North Country and perhaps the one meant for you "IDIOT WIND, blowing like a circle around my skull, From the Grand Coulee Dam to the Capitol"

Crap. You don't "recast" Dylan. What arrogance!

Hey, I'm sorry. I guess I was being a bit rude, although I wasn't trying to upset you or anything, it was kind of a truth-tinged joke aimed at what I thought was another TV-addicted trapped soul. They're everywhere, it drives me mad! I guess I misjudged you, you're not one of those. I didn't mean what I said about not looking twice at you either, I'm sure you're beautiful. Well, that'll teach me not to be such a dick in future! Please accept my apology.

He used to see the truth but he's lost his way, sadly. Not musically so much as politically & philosophically & believe me, I'm a hardcore Dylan fan, even of his more recent material. Compared to what he used to stand for, w/ his amazing protest & anti-war songs of old, his ideas about justice & fairness these days sucks ass big time. It pains me to say that but there ain't no getting around it. Thankfully, not too much of that ass-suckiness filters through into his music, not overtly at least.

Be that as it may, this version is still inferior to Dylan's original album version in my opinion. Although you make a fair point.

So the original Bob Dylan 'version' does not do this song credit? That's like saying that you do not do yourself any credit and that an impersonator of you is better than you at being you! Makes no sense. This impotent version of the song would not even exist were it not for Bob Dylan writing it in the first place. Dylan's version has waaay more balls than this comparatively half-dead rendition. And who is this singing anyway? Sounds like some smack-head in an alleyway wanking for pennies.

I spoke to the guy who picks the songs on True Blood for you, and he told me to tell you that you should try dating someone who; A: isn't on TV, B: has nothing at all to do with TV, and C: Doesn't go around acting like what he saw on TV. He assured me that if you follow those rules, you might actually meet someone worth meeting and not some shallow piece of crap with a hideous ego who probably wouldn't look twice at you anyway. Hope that helps! ;)

Any debate comparing any cover of a Dylan song to "the" Dylan version seems out of place, because Dylan rarely performs any song in some fixed or "definitive" way. A cover has to stand or fall based not on its fidelity to a "Dylan version," as if there were such thing, but based on its own merits. This version stands. It's good.

Simple and powerful. Reminds me a little of Greg Brown.

There is no one, anywhere, who can compare! Dylan is an American Icon! A poet, an artistic, and he "sees" the truth!
