i live in northern ca & have been to the henry(not arthur!!!) miller museum. a relatively little-known jem of beat culture resting near the cliffs of big sur. i've heard stories from folks there. i heard that marilyn was in between everything. she held no allegiance to anything but to those who like herself suffer. a true free-spirit. the opposite of what hoover thought a woman should be. so he had her killed. give it enough time and the truth comes out.

Thanks. I thought it sounded like plausible bullcrap. It IS really quite weird though, don't you think? But the Daily Telegraph printed a picture of what purports to be the letter itself. Much appreciated.

Superb tune. Brilliant in every respect. (Dull video though :-) ) THAT'S how to arrange an orchestra, Mr. N. Gallagher, instead of using strings to make your ever so tedious songs sound "sophisiticated". God-like Genius, my arse!. This one record from EBTG is better than your entire back-catalogue.

a letter written by Marilyn Monroe but in the voice of her step son and daughter's house cat, Sugar Finney, while they were away at summer camp(arthur miller's kids when she was married to him): "DEAR MUMMY & DAD: I'M WELL BUT MISS YOU. . . MUMMY HAZEL BOUGHT ME A SCRTCHING POLE, I DIDN'T LIKE IT AT FIRST BUT I HAVE LOTS OF FUN WITH IT NOW. . . THERS NEVER A DULL MOMENT IN THIS SHACK. . . HURRY BACK. LOVE, SUGAR FINNEY"

Without the past there is no future. Sounds so good to hear music that influenced a generation. Ask any UK student from the 80s and Im sure this album wil be mentioned alongside The Smiths and 'white soul' bands. Wish I had not lost my copy, this album was played many, many times.

"she recognized her popularity was caused by an image she hated-and that now, for the first time in 1962, was openly admitting. This showed how clearly she realized the split in herself. This can hardly, however, be called 'schizophrenic'; in fact it reveals a remarkable clarity of self-perception." -D. Spoto

@billyflynn2 - - - - No it isn't. Some people might think this song is f**king awful. - Not me though, it's my favourite track on the album. In my opinion, it has a great tune, vocals, lyrics, arrangement, tempo, production,...the works.... :-) (Asperger's, you see. Categorical statements often fail to compute.)
