Hi. My name is Anna, I am 18 years old. I have never self harmed, done drugs, or been abused. I live a great life. But I have my own struggles and I don't know what I am going to do in the future. There is going to be a of changes coming very soon. I feel like all my friends are going to leave me, I feel very lonely, I don't drive yet, I have never had a job, I have a lot of things to catch up on,I have fallen behind in school from home schooling, I am scared and I often crumble in public situations. Also I have gotten back into an old addiction of mine and am trying to crawl my way out of it again... I know a lot of people that ask for stuff have it a lot worse then I do but could anyone pray for me?

Being Matt's a Catholic, it is not surprising he based this song on a Catholic devotion - the Litany of Humility. What is surprising is that he makes it sound so awesome.

Be careful you are not too quick to judge people to be "turds". Prayer is holy to God and can change the world. There are many saints who withdrew from the world and lived lives of prayer and not works. Jesus honored Mary for sitting at his feet, even while Martha worked to serve the people. We do not understand the mind of God and must love others, even those we do not understand. Hard as that is. Try praying for those people instead of hating on them.

Mother Therese heard the audible voice of Jesus tell her, "do not be afraid to lose your (religious) vocation. Your vocation is to love. The World has more than enough priests and religious to take care of the needs of the well-to-do and rich, but for MY poor," Jesus said, "There are none." Middle class and well-to-do Westerners need to set an heroic example by giving up their lives of privilege and serving the poorest of the poor

Pope John Paul II said that piety and moral acts are useless, unless the needs of the poor are made the priority of the individual, small christian community and parish.

You're right, it is based on the Litany of Humility. Matt Maher talks about it in a short video titled: " Matt Maher - "Every Little Prison" (the challenge of humility)." Just copy and paste it into the search bar.

This sounds like it could have been partially based on Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val's Litany of Humility because it starts: "From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being loved... (and) From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being despised..." It's a really beautiful prayer!

Deliver me, Lord, from my weakness, pride, vanity, and selfishness.
