Hoyt did a lot of great things. And his momma wrote "Heartbreak Hotel." And his cousin was a U. S. Senator from Oklahoma. I'll never forget when he did an acapella version of a spiritual on "Nashville Now." Hoyt sonorously sang, "Blessed Savior, lead and guide us." This on top of "The No No Song." A wonderful artist..

Hoyt was very much a musical genius. As a fellow musician, I performed Cat from Kalamazoo and Evangelina. Evangelina is the only song that I have ever played that reaches the flatted seventh via the minor third and it's such a beautiful change. It occurs in the first line of the bridge/chorus. I'm not saying that change doesn't exist in other songs, but none that I ever performed.

A real favourite of mine. The whole "Fearless" album is terrific, and includes his distinctive cover of 'Lay, Lady, Lay'.

As a solo performing artists (female) on guitar and vocals, from age 16 through age 50, I learned this song when I was at one of my most deepest moments of despair, in Longmont, Colorado, alone, forlorn, abandoned by my lover of 9 years, in 1981. I think this song helped save my sanity, and I have enjoyed performing it with friends, ever since. It helped save my faith in love.

I met Hoyt years ago backstage, and after a short introduction prior to the show we went for a meal post concert, at which he greeted us all by name, and was extremely gracious. A true gentleman!
