Chocolate Menta Mastik performing "Emor Shalom" ("Say Hello"), the Israeli entry at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest.

One of my personal favorites from that year, a wonderfully playful, wittingly old-fashioned number with a flawless performance by the three girls of the group. Note that the one with the long black hair in the middle is Yardena Arazi, who'd later become one of Israel's biggest stars, even having a much-publicised rivalry with the country's other platinum-selling artist, Ofra Haza. Yardena would also return twice more on the ESC stage, as the contest's co-host in 1979 and - again - representing Israel in 1988.

The composer of this song is Matti Caspi - one of the best pop composer Israel ever had.

Shalom is both peace and hello. In this context it means - come say HELLO.

@refohtiew: It rather was the other way around, that Morocco only could enter that year because Israel didn't.

Emor Shalom means Say Hello, and this comment was posted on World Hello Day. You might as well say hello, maybe through this song.

@Woollylinnet But because Morocco entered ESC, Israel took not part in it! Therefore Morocco resigned - up to now!

@TheBlueyedblond Israel are allowed to enter because the European Broadcasting Area extends beyond Europe to the countries around the Mediterranean. Even Morocco entered once (in 1980). Most of the other eligible non-European countries don't enter because of Israel's presence in the competition.

Those are no pajamas....That was the fashion of the 70's! Huge bellbottoms, shirts with huge sleeves. Much better looking than today!

Israel is not technically Europe, yet they are allowed to enter Eurovision because they are more European than their lovely neighbours who would rather use women for target practice than anything else.

A great song and one that I remember very fondly. although to this day I'm not sure why they all decided to wear their pyjamas on the night.
