+saveusbloodymess Metsämiehen laulu is an old Finnish folk song and the lyrics were made by Aleksis Kivi as a poem for his book Seitsemän veljestä (Seven Brothers). Seitsemän veljestä is nowadays Finlands national book.

I sang both of these songs while I was in a boys choir, although it didn't make any sense to me why we from western Finland would sing Karjalan kaipuu, since none of us were from that region.

ei voi sattua jos ei tule verta...mikä on sinänsä idioottimainen logiikka, mutta tällä mennään

I don't know.. I never paid much attention in history class ;D I know that most of the history classes were about boring recent wars, Hitler and Stalin and stuff, the Finnish winter war... Unfortunately.. I would like to have learned a lot about the ancient history of Finland.

Depends really, I mean we are taught the history of Finland and the world at school (Just like any other country is teaching their own history) but I know a few people who've known "most" trough their grandparent's bedtime stories.

We are part of Fennoscandia which includes Finland and Sweden. And because of that some parts of Scandinavia also. So you´re both partly right. Peace! =)

Are you guys taught this in history classes in school? Or is it just something you pick up living their. I envy you for having such interesting roots.

I'm not certain what you mean by that. But I know I was wrong when I used the word 'hate'. We don't really hate it, maybe some of us are annoyed. Of course we really don't know much about the history of Finland.. 'Cause the Finnish writing system was invented in the 16th century. That's why works like "Kalevala" are pretty important to us.

Finland is not part of scandinavia. Trust me. I think i know the geocraphy of my own country.
