she was so great and down to earth. great use of space and minor scales. what a shame she couldn't get off the horse. lost a few friends to this horrible drug addiction. RIP.

@philippeguitare93 Andy recorded it in 1997, she recorded it in 1982.

@iv2sab: Her loss devasted the jazz guitar community. She was the brighest of the up and coming stars on the instrument - all the greats like Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, etc. said so as well as many non-guitarists - and then she was gone. I just wish Emily had gotten some help instead of checking out the way she did. Life is too precious to waste on heroin.

@YOUYOU47 so true i think it was miles who said it wasn't the notes he was playing in his solos rather the rests and spaces between his notes

I can't believe I have only just heard of Emily, she is just so in the pocket. Her teaching dvds are the best I have ever seen. What a loss.

RIP Emily. I just bought Emily's Bebop and Swing Guitar DVD and I have to say that it is the best instructional DVD/book I have. I learned more in one hour than I did in a year of jazz guitar lessons. Anyone serious about learning jazz guitar should pick it up.

@dreamindex I disagree. She was exceptionally talented. Drugs destroyed. Drugs subtracted. Imagine if she lived, loved life and shared her genius with the next generation rather than bleed her soul away with the junk in her body. Dedication, discipline, commitment and passion for life would have allowed Emily to reach beyond herself and be with us today. We lost a great treasure due to a stupid white powder that lies to the brain. We simply lost for nothing.

It sounds brooding. Like something evil is lurking behind the door. What a fantastic version of "Afro."

@nuevoflor Opium is indeed a sacred drug. I am not sure what she was addicted too. It was probably a number of things. Drugs like that can make you do things you never thought were possible.
