Distorted and clean rhythm comparison between EMG 81 and the new Seymour Duncan Nazgul on the bridge position (no EQ applied, natural sound with two tracks per pickup).

I've used two Schecter guitars, the C8 GB 2014 Model (with Nazgul) and the Damien 7 (with the Blackouts) on E and Drop D tuning. Seventh and eighth strings weren't used on this video.

Wow, the 81 has much more clarity,in both lead and clean. The nazgul seems too scooped in the mids, gotta try it

The Nazgul's sound better clean -more articulate and less "mic'd". Seems like you get the power of the EMG without the downside.

i kinda cant tell which i really like more....i want one guitar for each brand of this two.. but yet seymore duncan has more to choose for my glam metal metalcore music.. blackouts, black winter, sh8/sh4i cant decide at all

I scored a nazgul cheap off eBay. Safe to say I'm going to be buying one for every guitar I own. They are fucking spot on

Gotta love the 81. Full, punchy, warm, cutting, it does it all. Sure, it's cleans are not the best, but you don't get an 81 to play cleans

The EMG has a very warm sound. The Nazgul seems to have those low frequencies scooped a bit for more attack and clarity.I was very impressed with how the nazgul played on a clean channel. Both seem to work depending on the situation but i feel like the nazgul has more dynamic response and is just an all around great pickup. Will definitely consider purchasing a SD Nazgul for an upgrade.

The Nazgul gets my vote big time. There's something I really hate about the EMG.

i liked both pickups actually, i think they each have their uses for different types of playing and songs. personally like the hett set EMGs best for my style of playing.

Everyone has a different taste in tone. I love EMG pickups if you want the active pick up with a passive feel try put the X series of EMG pickups they sound better than the originals less gain, more head room and all other factors improved. I use a 60X/89XR set in my Jackson rhoads rrxmg.

I felt the distorted tone coming from the SD were better, sounding more natural and defined, while the EMG sounded very synthetic. The Nazgul has more attack but less gain, but that can easily be made up for with a good amp or pedal. The woody, compressed sound of the 81 would be great for punk, death & black metal, but not much else imo. Ironically, however, the cleans from the EMG were superior, having more clarity and punch, giving off a more natural clean tone of an electric guitar while the Nazgul sounded flat, like a cheap imitation of an acoustic guitar, lacking punch and presence. Overall, the SD is more well-rounded for distortion, but the EMG is better for extreme metal and clean tones.
