Elvis Presley - Swing Down Sweet Chariot

Enjoy!

Why don't you swing down sweet chariot

Stop and let me ride

Swing down chariot

Stop and let me ride

Rock me lord, rock me lord

Calm and easy

Well I've got a home on the other side

Why don't you swing down sweet chariot

Stop and let me ride

Swing down chariot

Stop and let me ride

Rock me lord, rock me lord

Calm and easy

Well I've got a home on the other side

Well, well, well, well, well, well

Ezekial went down in the middle of a field

He saw an angel workin' on a chariot wheel

Wasn't so particular 'bout the chariot wheel

Just wanted to see how a chariot feel

Why don't you swing down sweet chariot

Stop and let me ride

Swing down chariot

Stop and let me ride

Rock me lord, rock me lord

Calm and easy

Well I've got a home on the other side

Well, well, well Ezekial went down and he got on board

Chariot went a bumpin' on down the road

Zeke wasn't so particular 'bout the bumpin' of the road

Just wanted to lay down his heavy load

Why don't you swing down sweet chariot

Stop and let me ride

Swing down chariot

Stop and let me ride

Rock me lord, rock me lord

Calm and easy

Well I've got a home on the other side

Well I got a father in the promised land

Ain't no more stoppin' till I shake his hand

Rock me lord, rock me lord

Calm and easy

I've got a home on the other side

Why don't you swing down sweet chariot

Stop and let me ride

Swing down chariot

Stop and let me ride

Rock me lord, rock me lord

Calm and easy

Well I've got a home on the other side

Right out of Black blues and Gospel tradition. Pure. His favorite music that kept his ensemble up half the night singing it! Watching the interviews, they wouldn't have traded it for anything today. (although at the time they just wanted to sleep!) He sure left us a lot of beautiful sounds and memories but living up to that level of expectations can destroy anyone.

Actually...This Song is part of African American history, the earliest recording, called a "Negro Spiritual", was probably first recorded by the Fisk Jubilee Singers in 1909, then half a decade later was popularized by The Golden Gate Quartet ,THEN Elvis covered the song, onto Parliament, Dre, and Dru Down (Rescue 911). One love pimp- Stay Fo'nky...

This is such a cool song. It is really Spirit filled. I'm now learning the lyrics so that I can sing it when I do stuff around the house.

Elvis' gospel music is some of my favourite Elvis music...you can tell he really sang it passionately. I wouldn't mind if some modern artists would stay in touch with their roots.

The Elvis Videos

@pepefish1 in the lyrics 'lord' should be capitalized to 'Lord' (especially since this is a gospel song) and 'Ezekial' is correctly spelled 'Ezekiel' (Like the book in The Bible)

Nobody does it better than Elvis. He had that Southern gospel in him from birth:).

FROM THIS!... To, Parliament- ''Mothership Connection (Star Child)''... To, Dr Dre- ''Let Me Ride''. It's interesting how music evolves.
