From a Brit ,Enlighten me this song has no mention of slavery and for the sake clarity my standpoint on it is that it was disgusting and perverse treatment of one human being by another. However this song to me is simply the voice of the ordinary white southerner who loved his place in America who often in no more in rags stood up again and to fight not for for slavery they fought for their choice on who should govern for family friends and their comrades in arms.
