I can still remember how disgusted I was when Margaret Thatcher was giving her support to Augusto "death squads" Pinochet after he had finally been arrested. I think that tells you all you need to know about her. With regard to Costello's best albums, I love Spike but my personal favourite is Imperial Bedroom. I think it's something of an overlooked masterpiece.

Thanks whoever put all of these up, I watched all 6 at work, and it made my day. I've been obsessed with "tramp" and "dangle" lately, and this featured great insight and versions of each. It's so hard to try and explain to friends just how amazing EC is , and how easily he can manipulate emotion and though with a turn of phrase or melody. It's also funny to notice that most YouTube comments on EC stuff seems to be positive, less haters. I guess you either get it or you don't give a shit, eh?

@champipple Thank you so much for putting up these videos. You have no idea how beneficial these have been to me as a musician. Elvis Costello has always been my favorite musician and I've learned so much from the complexity of his songs and his way of telling a story throughout them. You obviously are as much a fan as I am. GO ELVIS!!!

Interesting to reflect on this now 19 years later (at time of posting) - I was a big fan of this song and album and also was very anti-Thatcher. Now she is old and decrepit and I am older and hopefully more mature - I try to be more charitable, but I still think she did a lot of damage to Britain and could have brought about the changes without the bull in the china shop approach.

Some comments on this great song: - It is clearly about Margareth Tatcher ("When England was the whore of the world, Margaret was her Madam"). Ironically, the melody reminds "ISN´T SHE LOVELY?", by Stevie Wonder; - Some verses are from a song never completed by Costello, I think the name of the song is BETRAYAL, with another melody; - One of the best political songs of Elvis, along with Shipbuilding and Oliver´s Army.
