This is Electric Light Orchestra's In Old England Town from the ELO 2 album.

I have included lyrics in time with the song.

Enjoy!

It's probably "smoke" and not "smog" because in the next line the last wword is "choke" and I assume it rhymes.

Always loved this one, odd track but it's great. Love ELO all over but was it Roy Wood that gave it the darkness in those early years? Can never work it out. Either way, love it all. Amazing band.

"...they're all dancin' in a line...yeah!" Sounds like Jeff Lynne is channeling his inner Ian Anderson to me...

Had this album when I was in middle school. Until this video I wasn't even close on the lyrics….

Qué estupidez, como si quejarse de la sociedad hiciera mejor la música.

The bands that are similar to The Beatles like: Klaatu, ELO and more... are really really great, they are only showing the world that mainstream like the beatles could be great :)

I absolutely agree... Actually you're speaking of Jeff Lynne.. Some english musical specialists say that Jeff Lynne is better than Lennon/mcCartney... And well, when you hear what he did all by himself, and that in the end, the remaining Beatles hired him to produce their two ultimate songs "Free as a Bird", and "Real Love", means he is THE GREATEST GENIUS in music!!

This sounds nothing like the Beatles. ELO are at better composers and musicians than any member of the Beatles has ever been

Survived freshman year at college listening to this - man I was a dark individual then.

awesome! sometimes I get this song in my head and have to hear it. it isn't one of ELOs best, but strangely compelling with the instrument arrangement. FYI: Thanks so much for the lyrics... didn't know most of them. Here's the only correction I can see: "there was hell and now there's SMOKE [not smog] let's build more cars and drive away before we choke." (5:48) Cheers!

This has a gothic medieval feel to it.

John Lennon dubbed them the sons of The Beatles.

@m0therfan * I can hear where you are coming from, I listened to the song you mentioned and yes I could make out parts that resembled the fiffs, it's not surprising as some people suggest that ELO was the Beatles' spiritual successor and I know the Beatles were an influence in the early days.

@tigranvartanovitch = While Jeff Lynne is talented in many ways, enunciation isn't one of his strong points, he might have meant to sing smoke but it sounds like smog to me and since pollution seems to a theme of this song, smog sounds more appropiate.
