Actually, this is almost an off-the-record cover. Even sounds like Del Shannon. Listen to the original and you'll see that the only difference is the super rich (Phil Specter-like) instrumentation and production values.

The liner notes on the digitally remastered CD of Discovery say that Jeff started laying down tracks for this in 1979, during the Discovery sessions. He finished it in 2001! That beats the six years that Boston's Third Stage took by a couple of decades.

Like the Beatles, I'm not sure ELO is capable of doing a cover badly. This was great. Jeff Lynne with the Travelling Wilburys did a great cover of Runaway, too.
