"I Believe", in my opinion, was the first TRUE ROCK GUITAR record with an ELECTRIC guitar solo in it. It is the "missing link" between Rock and Blues music. As for the criticism that Elmore James was a "one riff boogie king", buy the Rhino Records compilation, "The Sky Is Crying: The History Of Elmore James", and you will find out that Elmore James wrote and performed many different kinds of Blues and Rock songs. It is simply that the "Dust My Broom" knockoffs turned out to be his big hits.

Hyperbole much? Elmore had an amazing voice, but his guitar work couldn't stand with some of the best slide players of his own era. Not to mention that most of his tracks were cookie-cutter clones of each other...clones of his cloning of Johnson's "Dust My Broom," which was itself a clone. I love Elmore James and all, but let's be realistic,

This recording is "Rosetta Stone" of American music. Music was never the same after "I Believe" was recorded and released. It influenced musicians and singers across the globe. Elmore James was the greatest musical visionary of the 20th Century. No one else came close to what he could do with a guitar during his lifetime, and it took decades before others began even approaching what he did on record. Thanks go out to God for blessing the world with Elmore James and his amazing guitarwork.
