I agree it is their weakest, but you can't be mad at them for wanting to play new songs, they themselves obviously think they're good, at least they're still a great, fresh band instead of generic, boring and predictable act like so many that dominate these days

I do think Rocket is easily their weakest album though. 2 poor songs, with love, and the night, several fillers that sound like a Guy solo album. Yet 2 of the strongest songs, Jesus and Dear Friends, they rarely if ever play live! Still love them, just think they've made a couple of cock ups recently

Thanks for the reply Ollie. Dec 2012 the first tour I haven't caught them in years, 5 oldies including Fugitive Motel! When they debuted Rocket live, they played 3 songs from Leaders, and nothing previous to that. They'd just re-released the early albums, chance missed to earn some money, they played 9 songs from SSK that night, more than they played from Rocket! It wouldn't have taken much to balance the set, 2 less from SSK, scattered and one other, and everyone would have been happy!

Can't really call Elbow corporate, at all. They still self produce everything they do, and they never do anything that they don't want to do (how bands should be). Of course there'll be new fans, but every band has them, but you just have to deal with them, point them in the right direction etc. They're not alienating long term fans, you're alienating yourselves. How many bands actually still play songs from their debuts these days? They don't, because they want to be fresh for themselves.

I wonder if they'll play it live now that they have the Dead in the Boot b-sides album out now...

So much better than 'corporate' Elbow of build a Rocket times. Elbow have missed a trick refusing to play their earlier stuff live, they're alienating long term fans, and missing out on sales. Someone next to me at Jodrell Bank actually squealed 'OOOH a new song' when they started 'Station Approach'!!!

I think this is the tenth time in a day I've listened to this since finding it. So. Fucking. Awesome.

Did this come from a physical copy of The Noisebox EP? Because that'd be epic.

it most certainly is the best song ever. i've seen elbow live three times but never seen them do this one and it kills me.
