@Bio69 Actually, they absolutely were fundamental in it's development. Just listen to Hell Awaits, keeping in mind it was re-corded in 85! Almost ALL of the original foundational death metal bands Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Possessed, Death, Obituary, ect claim SLAYER as an influence!!! Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood are absolutely the first death metal albums ever.
