Eddie Cochran would have been 70 on 2 October 2008 .

Sadly as we know he died in a car crash in 1960 aged just 21.

He was one of the first artists of the rock era to write their own songs. Having composed so many songs now considered to be classics ( Summertime Blues , C`mon Everybody , Somethin` Else , Three Steps to Heaven ) and all of this before his untimely death at 21 , we can only imagine what a contribution he would have given to the music World had he lived.

On this song recorded in 1956 Eddie is featured on vocals & guitar . The Holly Twins were Jonell McQuaig and Glenell McQuaig .

Well baby-baby-baby, baby-baby-baby, baby-baby-baby

You ain't nothing but a reindeer, ooh barkin' all the time

Ever since we heard you singin'

Ever since we saw you swingin'

Our hearts lit up like a Christmas tree

So please-please Elvis, spend Christmas with me

And if you won't

You ain't nothing but a reindeer, ooh barkin' all the time

Well if you ain't here for Christmas

Then you ain't no friend of mine

Baby-baby-baby, baby-baby-baby

If only you could hear what we're sayin'

If Santa Claus could hear us prayin'

There isn't anything that we wouldn't pay

If you could be here Elvis on Christmasday

And if you won't

I'll be so lonely baby, I'll be so lonely

It's gonna be a great romance

So don't be cruel and love me tender

Don't give me those blue moon blues

Come back baby, I wanna play house

And I promise not to step on your blue suede shoes

I want you, I need you, I love you

There ain't nobody above you

Won't you listen to my Yuletide plea

And please-please Elvis, spend Christmas with me

And if you won't

You ain't nothing but a reindeer, barkin' all the time

Well if you ain't here for Christmas

Then you ain't no friend of mine

So Elvis, spend Christmas with me

@TheDJGrandPa You didn't expect "THE KING" to play all the instruments on stage and the studio as well as sing and dance? ELVIS used a variety of session musicians and he was whole show. The Beatles can't make that claim.

@donn409 Well, Elvis had three great guys playing with him, I do prefer him over them Beetle-Bugs though

ELVIS' impact was so huge and crossed so many boundaries some take it for granted today. Perhaps, the Beatles were in that same category but it took four of them.

@The170460 He hit his head on the car roof causing head injuries before being thrown from the car. He didnt die at the scene . He was taken unconscious to the hospital and visibly only had some scratches to the side of his face. Tests showed he was likely to be badly brain damaged ( had he lived ). In the event his condition worsened and he died later day. RIP

Right. He learned to play guitar on Eddie's Gretch, which was carried to the car for Eddie that day by none other than Marc Bolan.
