Whether by Ed or Charlie, this song always annoys me, because we don't get the woman's reaction when she sees her ex standing there crying. That and I cant imagine what he could have done to not even be allowed to talk to his son.

I like how this has a bit of Motown going on. I assume he recorded this in Memphis, back when they were taking on to Motown.

Wow! What a find this is! I had been used to hearing this song done by the great Charlie Louvin, who had a huge hit with it. I had no idea Ed Bruce had written it until now. I actually prefer Ed's version, as the words seem to flow a lot better here, and I LOVE those drum rolls, LOL! I also had heard he was a Pop artist, but had never heard anything in that vein until now. Many thanks for posting this - it's a musical treasure!

Thanks so much for posting this. My folks had this 45 back in the 60's. Years later, when Ed came out with "You're the Best Break", I recognized his name but no one else new what I was talking about. Anyway, I love this song.
