The Maz 18 NR is Dr. Z's most popular amp. In this video we discuss some of the basic elements of this amp. Additional videos demonstrating it's various tones are on the way! We're still working on getting our recording quality situated as this amp sounds *TONS* better in real life than in the vid. :) For more info: http://www.humbuckermusic.com/dr-z-maz-18-jr.html

This video is irritating because I have a Maz 18 which I love dearly and I never run it nearly as dirty as these guys are doing. It's such a beautiful clean amp...you don't have to get it dirty for it to sing.

I've played the Ghia which I believe is rated at 15 watts, it is a loud amp. People think 15 or 18 watts isn't enough power. The only difference between it and lets say a 30 watt is clean headroom. The 15 and 18 will break up sooner. I hated the Ghia with its one tone control. Z's are darker sounding amps. Don't look for Fender sounds period. You've heard the term blanket over the amp sound. That's my experience with them. I think Morgan amplifiers does this kind of thing a lot better with better parts for less money for basically the same design. Shop around and go play them if you can.

All this amp is is tone, tone, and more tone. I LOVE pedals, but there's nothing like playing a guitar straight into an amazing tube amp like this.

Extremely bloated prices for a dirty sounding practice amp. I do not get it...

I appreciate the playing styles you guys show here. It's refreshing to have some simpler chording etc going on. The one concern I have is how muddy the lows sound... I've tried a Maz 18 with reverb... it didn't seem to break up and get murky like that with the low notes. What do you guys think of that? I'd love to see you do what you just did with a reverb model

Haha. Yep! It's a master volume amp so you can easily crank the gain for breakup. As for a comparison, those are very different amps. Give us a call at 706-866-2161 and we could explain a bit quicker than typing it all out. :) Thanks!

It looks like one of my friends was badly mistaken when he said that Dr. Z was hard to break up. LOL How would rate the Maz-18 compared to the Two Rock Studio 22 or the low wattage Matchless amps?

No pedals. All these were shot with just the guitar directly into the amp. Thanks!

At 1:35 is that the amps natural OD or is there a pedal stuck in there?

this demo..the tone is just okay...nothing special....you can get this kind of tone from almost any amp....i still believe your fretting fingers and picking style and angles contribute the dynamics and tone....maybe should use good experience guitarist for this amp demos...the guitarist in this video just doesnt have the "touch"....sounded so boring

Great tone :-) Have you played the Maz-18 thru another manufacturers cab? Any Tone difference between the Head/Cab & the Combo version?
