Ok, I'll see if I can explain in 500 characters: Through the course of the movie we haven't just been watching a cute love story, we've been watching a man fighting his own descent into madness, trying to use love to buoy himself. He beats the man whose been plaguing him through the movie but at great personal cost in a pyrhic victory. The final song is a combination of the evil gloating we hear all the time and the acknowledgement of losing his soul at the exact same time. That's the big deal

The fact that the story is powerful enough to grab your attention away from the menacing horse presiding over the table of absurd figures and make the scene seem somber or serious as opposed to surreal and ridiculous really says something.
