Donovan - Colours 2005

(Released 1965)

Yellow is the colour of my true love's hair,

In the morning, when we rise,

In the morning, when we rise.

That's the time, that's the time,

I love the best.

Blue is the colour of the sky-y-y,

In the morning, when we rise,

In the morning, when we rise.

That's the time, that's the time,

I love the best.

Green is the colour of the sparklin' corn,

In the morning, when we rise,

In the morning, when we rise.

That's the time, that's the time,

I love the best.

Freedom is a word I rarely use,

Without thinking, a-ha,

Without thinking, a-ah.

Of the time, of the time,

When I've been loved.

Mellow is the feeling that I get,

When I see her, oh yeah,

When I see her, oh yeah.

That's the time, that's the time,

I love the best

I love the best

I love the best

I love the best.

still getting 39,556 views so can't be bad... i like the tempo and the live version, not like the miming you get with the singers today who's voices are all enhanced..... good for you Donovan, keep it up :)

One must accept that folk singers do it their way and that's fine. But this has to be the worst version of this classic that I've ever heard in any format.

@Rush1013 I know Lucy in the sky was a typical choice, and I thought so too and would've said it only the maximum letters to use didn't allow me to. Okay I'm not sure if it is right, that it's about drugs, and because your theory about his song could be true too, cause John wrote more songs about his sons (as far as I know Paul only wrote Hey Jude). But it doesn't matter. Look I know for sure that they used drugs to expand their musical minds, and that's all I'm trying to say here.

@TheWorldinProgress Typical you would say that Lucy In the Sky was about drugs, that just shows how little you know. Johns son Julian made a drawing of his school friend Lucy floating in space with stars all around, and when John asked what it was he said it was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. John was really inspired by it and him and Paul (primarily John) spit balled lines back and forth and came up with the lyrics.

@Rush1013 I did read your comment but then your other comment made your first comment sound a little.. unbelievable. I don't say they were trippin' their brains out on every song, but they were stoned on lots of 'em and I know that for sure I know a lot of those songs are about drugs, or written while on drugs For instance take, Lucy in the sky, that too was written about drugs, maybe while on drugs But the recordings were indeed sober, at least not on hard drugs, at least the studio songs were

@TheWorldinProgress If you actually read my comment i said that drugs are NOT bad, in fact there great. And on Girl John was not dragging on a joint, he was just making that sound affect himself. Listen to it, you cant make that sound taking a drag of a joint. And they did write basically all of their songs primarily sober, they just had some lines and themes from drugs. For instance, many of the lines from Happiness Is A War Gun were written off of lines from them on acid in rishikesh.

@Rush1013 Look, that true artists dont need drugs to make art is partly true yes, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's just expanding your mind, with the resources our world has to offer, unless its any chemical trash, that's another story. But saying that the Beatles wrote all their songs sober, is well.. it's just not accurate. Take 'Girl' for instance, you even hear them take a drag of a joint, what can you say about that?

@TheWorldinProgress Haha nope man you do.

@Rush1013 You have a lot to learn amigo

Rush1013

@TheWorldinProgress although you were correct about everything else, many drugs like Marijuana and LSD can be a great thing when used responsibly and appropriately.

Rush1013

@TheWorldinProgress you couldn't be more wrong. He wrote the majority of his songs sober i would believe, besides some songs that were BASED off of LSD (epistle to dippy, sunshine superman). True artists dont need drugs to make there art, which is a common misconception. Like when people say shit like "The Beatles wrote all there songs while tripping on acid" when writing a song is a long, complicated process that drugs usually have little to do with. The Beatles wrote all their songs sober.
