LYRICS

I must confess what you say is true

I had a rendezvous with somebody new

That's the only one I ever had

Baby, baby, don'cha go away mad

Cheatin' shows and it never goes

You got a reason to be mad I suppose

But she only was a passin' fad

Ba-by, don't you be mad

Her kind's a dime a dozen

And that's not the kind I want

Who'd ever dream your cousin

Would wander into that restaurant?

I understand that you feel upset

Whaddya you say that you forgive and forget?

Come on and kiss me just to show you're glad

Baby, baby don'cha go away mad

[instrumental]

Now, her kind's a dime a dozen

I should've passed her by

Who'd ever dream your cousin

Would come along and give us the eye?

I understand that feel upset

Whaddya you say that you forgive and forget?

Come on and kiss me just to show you're glad

Baby, don'cha go away mad

Understand that you're quite upset

Whaddya you say that you forgive and forget?

Come on and kiss me just to show you're glad

Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, don'cha go

'way mad

Now, don'cha go away mad

It's a great song but he did go wrong, he either should've done another takeor the take was good and then later something crept into this version up on youtube...it's 2:15 in: when he sings the word "eye" at the end of the linethere's a strain in his voice, he doesn't finish strong... his recorded voice quality aside though, his insouciance and Peck's Bad Boy charm really shine through here, and make this performance quite special; it's my favorite example of this type of song in his repertoire: ring a ding-ding!

I'm sure you're aware of it, but if not, check out his stuff with Tommy Dorsey. Top quality stuff. That was his "King Of The Bobby Soxers" or "Sinatramania" era.

No, the girl's cousin wandered into the restaurant, where he was with another girl.

so true...the '50's and early 60's was Sinatra at his best!

Frank at his coolest...no doubt about it!

My car's on fire!

Frank is saying "Hey, baby, sure I boinked your cousin and she was better than you, but don't be mad, it's me, Frank!" That's because Frank is a sensitive moody guy with more than a touch of class and he don't go for none of that Elvis acid rock pop crap, just good clean orchestrations done by clean shaven men with the finest of tuxedoes. None of that junk played by those shaggy creeps with the funny suits and the funky shoes.

The way Frank Sinatra sings make all of his songs real juwels, nobody comes close to Sinatra.

Neal Hefti's writing really shines here. The sound of the saxes gliding over that major ninth chord at the beginning is just wonderful. Easily one of my favorite vocal arrangements to play.

@rare6499 I am presuming that the "My Way" era was post-1965. But, there is some good stuff from this period (songs like "Summer Wind" and 'Drinking Again" and his haunting and his pretty album with Jobin),, but I agree that it's too bad that people are listening to the wrong era of his music...In the 50's and early 60's, Frank was much more consistently good and was an underrated jazz singer. I love his stuff with Count Basie. And in the late 1940's, his work was underrated.
