Don Henley performs "The End of Innocence" live at the Farm Aid concert in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 7th, 1990. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

innocence should never be a lost era of who we were, who we grew to be and who we became. a loss of innocence only comes at the end of our life, never ever before that. what a beautiful time of our life even when we are past our own but to see it in the ones we create it for, because life will always be that our women are our today and our children will always be our tomorrow and that is what innocence is all about anyways, isn't it???

"The End Of The Innocence"Remember when the days were longAnd rolled beneath a deep blue skyDidn't have a care in the worldWith mommy and daddy standin' byBut "happily ever after" failsAnd we've been poisoned by these fairy talesThe lawyers dwell on small detailsSince daddy had to flyBut I know a place where we can goThat's still untouched by menWe'll sit and watch the clouds roll byAnd the tall grass wave in the windYou can lay your head back on the groundAnd let your hair fall all around meOffer up your best defenseBut this is the endThis is the end of the innocenceO' beautiful, for spacious skiesBut now those skies are threateningThey're beating plowshares into swordsFor this tired old man that we elected kingArmchair warriors often failAnd we've been poisoned by these fairy talesThe lawyers clean up all detailsSince daddy had to lieBut I know a place where we can goAnd wash away this sinWe'll sit and watch the clouds roll byAnd the tall grass wave in the windJust lay your head back on the groundAnd let your hair spill all around meOffer up your best defenseBut this is the endThis is the end of the innocenceWho knows how long this will lastNow we've come so far, so fastBut, somewhere back there in the dustThat same small town in each of usI need to remember thisSo baby give me just one kissAnd let me take a long last lookBefore we say goodbyeJust lay your head back on the groundAnd let your hair fall all around meOffer up your best defenseBut this is the endThis is the end of the innocence

...Ironic how he whines about "lawyers dwelling on small details" after what he and Frey did to Don Felder.

Great song by one of my favorite recording stars. Henley wrote some of the best songs outside of "The Eagles". And so has Glenn Frey. But Henley has done better has a solo artist. Frey did better as an actor. They are from in my opinion one of the greatest bands of all time.

This is the end of Innocence...What is an American citizen to do when they cannot trace their roots, their life history and the results of their business details because they are kept in poverty and doors are shut to every opportunity she attempts?

Younger generation never knew what it was like in the 1960's to late 1990's. your generation is indeed paying for your parents' sins. the boy in the song represents America and Americans. The parents represent both political parties. America was indeed a greatest country on the planet once . Listen to the lyrics and see if you get it.

No song better captures the myths about American greatness that so many are seduced by, and the disillusionment that we feel when confronted with the stark reality of what this country has become. If only more of today's music were this poignant.

Believe Henley and Hornsby co-wrote this song. Henley's singing is a little flat on this live version. Great song.
