It's a traditional tune, so Dick Dale didn't expressly write it, either.

I saw him play "Misrlou" at the Carl Wilson Foundation benefit in Hollywood back in Oct. 2008. He left no doubt that he was still King of the Surf Guitar. I kept expecting to see smoke coming out of the guitar amp! Afterward he visited with my favorite left-handed guitar player, Evie Sands.

The point still stands though, they (Black Eyed Peas) need to not rip off other artist alive or dead.

Yes, perhaps, but Dick Dale didn't write this either. It's a traditional Middle Eastern folk song that he just adapted into a reverb drenched instrumental.

Albert King, just inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame also played left handed without re-stringing the guitar properly. Just like Dick Dale. Hendrix played traditional style. All 3 are legends, it's all about feel and soul.

As long as the original artist gives permission, and royalties are paid, it's all good. Dick made a shitload of money from the BEP song, and probably never saw a dime from the original recording. "Sampling" is theft, such as Vanilla Ice using "Under Pressure" by Queen.

In all fairness, The Beatles' first album Please Please Me had 6 covers out of the 14 songs on the album. Chill out, people have been doing this for a long time

Anyway this song it is not Dick Dale's either. It is a very old GREEK song recorded in 1927 in New York. The singer is called Tetos Dimitriades. Music/Lyrics (as first credited) by Nikos (Nick) Roubanis.

Yes, but Hendrix didn't play with his strings upside down, he was just left handed.

LOLZ. C'mon. These artists now have to pay or risk serious lawsuits, especially if it's from artists like Dick Dale or ELO. Both songs, while a bit oversimplified, were somewhat clever in their use of these samples. It's another art form. Anyone can take Fruity Loops and make their shitty tracks with samples, but it takes a talented person to make good tracks. It does take more work to be a crackshot guitarist than a crackshot DJ, but both have a place. I am a fan of roots music and electronica.
