David's Broadway Station

Welcome back everyone to our program featuring the music of Kurt Weill. Introduced by Mary Martin in the show "One Touch Of Venus", Kurt Weill and Ogden Nash wrote a lovely song entitled "Speak Low" which has been covered by many artists. Dianne Reeves covers this song to perfection. She is one of my very favorite jazz singers! "Speak Low" is off of her tribute album "The Calling" honoring Sarah Vaughan. I just took a look at Dianne Reeves' tour, and she is on a world wide version of Route 66 performing in the UK, Barcelona, Teatro Rosalia de Castro, Charleston SC. Oh, I see that Dianne Reeves will be back in NYC on the 10th of June. Here's a run down on the musicians featured on this fabulous recording: Steve Wilson(Sax), Clark Terry(Trumpet), Billy Childs & Mulgrew Miller(Piano), Reginald Veal(Bass), Greg Hutchison(Drums), Romero Lubambo and Russell Malone(Guitar), Munyungo Jackson(Percussion) and Billy Childs and Robert Freeman(Orchestrations). If you're not familiar with Dianne Reeves, check out her relatively new album "Beautiful Life" on Concord Records! Here's what the "Monterey Jazz Festival" page has to say about Dianne Reeves:"A multiple Grammy winner, Reeves has recorded and performed extensively with the Lincoln Center Jazz orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis, who said of Reeves,"She has one of the most powerful purposeful and accurate voices of this or any time." Reeves has also recorded with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Barenboim and was a featured soloist with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition, she was the first creative chair for Jazz for the L.A. Philharmonic, and the first singer to ever perform at the famed Walt Disney Concert Hall. We'll be back with more, so keep your dial right where it is. This is David's Broadway Station!

klavieresque

Not George Duke, Billy Childs did the charts on this CD. Mulgrew Miller plays piano, Duke was not on this.
