Enjoy!

Lyrics:

Your lips were like a red and ruby chalice

Warmer than the summer night

The clouds were like an alabaster palace

Rising to a snowy height

Each star its own Aurora Borealis

Suddenly you held me tight

I could see the midnight sun

I can't explain

The silver rain that found me

Or was that a moonlit veil

The music of the Universe

Around me

Or was that a nightingale

And then your arms miraculously found me

Suddenly the sky turned pale

I could see the midnight sun

Was there such a night

It's a thrill

I still don't quite believe

But after you were gone

There was still some

Stardust on my sleeve

The flame of it may dwindle

To an ember

And the stars forget to shine

And we may see the meadow in December

Icy white and crystaline

But oh my darling always I'll remember

When your lips were close to mine

And we saw the Midnight Sun

The Midnight Sun

On day as Johnny Mercer was driving along a California freeway, he heard a jazz instrumental tune.Mercer pulled into a filling station, called the radio station and said,"This is Johnny Mercer. Would you mind playing that again? I love it."On hearing it a second time, Mercer committed the melody to his uncanny memory and set to work on a lyric. It's "Midnight Sun."

I listen to Sarah Vaughan a lot as well as Billie Holiday and in my "own personal opinion" I think Diana Krall sounds like Sarah Vaughan on this particular song.

No she doesn't. She sounds like Diana Krall. You clearly need to listen to Sarah Vaughn some more!

A really lovely presentation of a tremendous jazz standard. Whew! I like all versions of this (even my own). Goes along wqith Bluesette and I'll Rem. April .. nice chords in this song .. nice guitar . nice delivery (nice slow tempo) easy .. even lazy .. no hurry (she planned it that way). It's on Wikifonia (but very plain) She is iconic. Treasure her; she's a treasure.

To "iwantabride101": She's not looking for "power." Ordinarily I would agree with you, but she doesn't sing that way. It's almost a melancholy feel - she's lamenting that she had one fantastic night but intimating that it never went beyond that...it's in a minor key and it's supposed to have a "subdued" feel. If you listen to her music, she doesn't really ever sing with power (I'm not sure she has the range to sing high anyway). She's more of a laid back bluesy jazz singer.

My version of this came off of the ST to "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", which is interesting-- Diana Krall never sang in that movie to my knowledge. At any rate, I love it, and thank you for posting it!
