Diana's version was "10 times" better than Fantasia's much more feeling to it. Fantasia's version was more like something you would hear in a gospel church & that should not have won the title!! It also is not original there are many who can sing with a gospel voice & that does not make them a star!!

okay to everyone who says Diana should have won...go back and watch the finale when she sung Don't Cry Out Loud...she totally missed a note and was off key...which was brought up in the post comments....GAME OVER.....THAT is what ultimately lost it for her.....

She sang the song well but she couldn't beat the emotion Fantasia puts into the song. She was going against a true Soul singer and a performer like Diana DiGarmo just can't compete against that. It was like a Gospel singer against a Disney park performer. You don't feel anything when Diana sings this song. Now the Final 2 sings different songs crafted to their specific voices.

Poor baby! Sounds like she was pressured to render a soulful Big Voice check-off list: screech here, scream there, tear up here, (failing pitchy) histrionics here. But its mechanical & void of feeling. She doesn't pull it off fluidly nor convincingly. She barely moved the choir. who by comparison moved like "saints marching in" for Fantasia!! That backing vocal at 3:47 couldn't even save her. It'd be interesting to see how much she's improved today.
